The Empowered Flight
November 2024
For my final project in FASH 110 (Intro to Fashion Design) class, I created an avant-garde, five-look collection inspired by a personal theme of empowerment. I envisioned a strong female pilot in control of both her plane and her life, soaring above challenges and embracing freedom. This theme resonated deeply with me as I have faced my own struggles with flying. The collection included elaborate wings crafted from foam board wrapped in decorative paper, a metallic tube top, and a skirt supported by a belt with curved construction paper held by wire. The look was further accentuated with a “neckpiece” featuring real wheels held by braided leather strips, a flowing scarf, pilot sunglasses, and black boots. I styled and directed the photoshoot at a local airplane museum, documenting the process with a talented team of a photographer (arianaleonephotography), model , and social media content creator for the behind the scenes video and fashion film.
